City dwellers longing to grow their own produce can learn a lot from Gary and Katie Bachman 's urban garden in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. On less than 1/10 of an acre, the Bachmans' Heritage Cottage Urban Nano Farm yields enough fresh vegetables and herbs to supply three local restaurants and a weekly farmers market, as well as the Bachmans' own needs. Nestle USA have unveiled its new "Balance Your Plate with Nestle" education campaign to help consumers build nutritious, convenient meals. The announcement was made during a luncheon presentation at the Consumer Federation of America's 36th Annual National Food Policy Conference.
The goal of "Balance Your Plate" is to help consumers enjoy the foods they love, while encouraging the consumption of more fruits and vegetables. By providing tips and tools, the campaign shows how individuals and families can quickly assemble high-quality balanced meals using frozen prepared entrees as the "center of the plate."

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' annual Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo (FNCE) took place last week, new research from ConAgra Foods, Inc., one of North America's leading food makers, shows that what you add to your diet can be just as important as what you remove.

Call it a friendly competition, one best argued over a bottle or pint. Its name is "Project 12." Twelve Anheuser-Busch brewmasters at Budweiser's 12 geographically dispersed breweries worked together to create their own "tribute" beers to fit the Budweiser brand's reputation for quality and consistency. The assignment pays homage to Budweiser's "clean and crisp" taste by using the proprietary yeast directly descended from the original Budweiser yeast culture used by Adolphus Busch in 1876 and still used by Budweiser today.
Through internal tasting and analysis, the 12 small-batch beers – each a lager using all-natural ingredients – were pared to six to take part in a summer-long, nationwide sampling effort. Consumer feedback will help Budweiser narrow the six beers to three for inclusion in a limited-edition sampler pack, available for purchase this fall.
